Over 200 years ago, Quaker and Methodist immigrants in the U.S. avoided investing in businesses tied to war, slavery, tobacco, gambling, and other activities inconsistent with their faith-based values. The desire to make investments that have a dual objective of profit and a social and/or environmental return has steadily grown since that time. Mission-related products such as SRI (Socially Responsible Investing), ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance), and impact investments have resulted in significant “sweet spots” for investors to place capital efficiently across a variety of asset classes. This includes private equity, fixed income, real assets, infrastructure and even public equities. This panel will explore how stakeholders gained entry to mission-related investing, how they have generated returns through strategies that consider both impact AND social, economic, and environmental issues.

Speakers:

  • Andrew Siwo, Investment Director, Colonial Consulting (moderator)
  • Sean Flynn, Managing Director, Head of Business Development - Asset Management, Credit Suisse (panelist)
  • Ken Gustaven, Executive Director, Merck (panelist)
  • Bhakti Mirchandani, Senior Vice President, Investment Fund (panelist)
